Becoming a Leader
Our word of the month for October is Leadership! A leader is someone who directs and guides a person, team or organization. Leadership means to influence, inspire and help others become the best version of themselves. Here are some qualities of a great leader:
Quality 1: Lead by Example
If you want to be an effective leader, you first have to be able to lead yourself and set an example for others to follow. That means being disciplined and putting in the work when you feel like taking a break. It means being willing to push through barriers and do things that are hard. A good leader is someone who practices what they preach and inspires others to do the same.
Quality 2: Integrity
Effective leaders are honest and have integrity. To have integrity means to be a person of your word, honor your commitments and do what you say you’re going to do. Integrity also means to do the right thing when no one else is looking.
Quality 3: Patience and a Desire to Serve
Great leaders have patience with those they are leading as well as a strong desire to help others. Whether it’s a fellow classmate, friend or sibling, your ability to show compassion and remain patient while instructing or assisting creates a positive environment for others to grow. Good leaders have a desire to share their knowledge and experience to help others.
