Mindset for Success!

Master Your Mindset:

Our word of the month for August 2021 is MINDSET. Mindset is basically how you think about things. You can choose to have a positive outlook or a negative one, but keep in mind that how you think is entirely up to you. This month we’re teaching our students how to turn negative thoughts into positive ones, and how to use mindset to succeed with these important points:

You choose your mindset.

This has already been stated in our intro but it can’t be stressed enough. If challenges come your way, consider how you can turn them into opportunities. For example, you may receive a poor grade on a test or a negative review at work. Use that feedback to improve those areas and become better.

You never have to have a bad day.

It’s true that sometimes you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, school doesn’t go well or work is stressful. Learn to compartmentalize these negative situations and remind yourself that one negative instance doesn’t determine the rest of your day. After the negative situation is over, tell yourself that the rest of the day will be better. Come to your martial arts class with a fresh attitude and see how everything improves!

Boredom is a mindset.

Boredom is not something that happens to you, it’s something you can control. I sometimes hear students complain about being bored with the basics or even communicate wanting to quit at some point during their martial arts journey due to boredom. Did you know that boredom is a mindset? I’ll take myself for example. I’ve been practicing martial arts for over 20 years and I could easily be bored with low blocks or round kicks, two techniques I’ve practiced for over two decades now. Why am I not bored with practicing these basics? Because of my mindset. Every time I practice, I think about how this is making me better and how this is an opportunity to be strong and work on being the best version of myself. I keep my goals in mind and I remember that no matter what, there is always room for improvement. Why isn’t a low block boring to a new student? The technique doesn’t change over time, it’s how you think about it. This applies not only to martial arts but every aspect of your life.

Each month we focus on a specific word to develop character and help our students conquer challenges not only in martial arts journey but in life. Learning how to master your mindset is so valuable and something that will help you succeed wherever you go! Whether you’re an adult student or you have a child in martial arts, these concepts help you to better focus, grow and achieve the goals you’ve set for yourself or your child.
