For beginners learning Muay Thai we like to focus first on proper stance, rhythm and defense. In this video we break down the proper footwork and basic drills to practice movement and defense. To be successful in any style you first have to build a strong foundation. At 7 Spears Martial Arts we believe in building strong defensive skills first; once you’ve developed those skills you are less afraid of your opponent and better able to set up offensive strikes.

Self defense is one of the many benefits of learning Muay Thai and here are a few more:

  1. Body strength and conditioning: Muay Thai is a fantastic totally body workout! Each session burns hundreds of calories and you develop strong muscles from the explosive strikes and movement.
  2. Stress relief: Who wouldn’t enjoy punching a bag after a stressful day at work? Muay Thai classes allow you to take a break from your obligations, enjoy the camaraderie of others, and take out your frustrations on a heavy bag or Thai pads!
  3. Confidence: Regular training will improve your physique and how you feel about yourself! As you gain strength and improve your skill level you can’t help but feel like a bad a&*!!

These are just a few of the many reasons you should be doing Muay Thai! You don’t have to be a fighter to enjoy the rewards. Many of our students have chosen Muay Thai because it’s such a fun and effective way to get in shape and be strong.

Don’t take our word for it; see for yourself by trying a free week!
