What is Tang Soo Do Karate?

Tang Soo Do is a Korean martial art that is similar to Taekwondo and Karate. The techniques of what is commonly known as Tang Soo Do combine elements of Shotokan Karate, Soo Bahk Ki, Tae Kyun, and Kung Fu.

My favorite thing as a martial arts instructor is watching a shy, introverted student start to grow and feel better about themselves because of the confidence that martial arts help to develop. It does this because students learn and develop skills, and as they improve these skills they receive praise and recognition. They start to believe they are capable of something because they are. It isn’t a false sense of confidence but one that is based on something real and tangible. When a student breaks a board for the first time it’s an amazing sense of empowerment and realizing their own strength.

4. Fitness

Kids stay active while they are learning skills. Youth sports and physical education programs are great for physical development. Karate offers many benefits, but when it comes to fitness, becoming a true martial artist means becoming a very fit and healthy person.

5. Constant and Never Ending Improvement

One of the best things about martial arts is the focus on constant improvement. Kids karate programs follow a belt system and curriculum that builds upon basic skills. There is a constant focus on improving already learned techniques while acquiring new skills. Even as students reach black belt there are more advanced techniques to learn and master. Developing a mindset of constant and never ending improvement is an essential thing for students to learn as this will apply to all areas of a person’s life whether it be personal or professional. Students must be invited to try out for the Demonstration Team. This is a dedicated group of our top students who have a winning attitude and the desire to push themselves to be their best.
