Health and Fitness are a Priority

Prioritize Your Health and Fitness!

As adults it’s all too easy to put work, family, social engagements, and many other things before our own health and fitness. Too often I hear adults say they’re unable to train or workout because of busy schedules, stress or personal challenges. When I hear this I cringe because I know how important it is to prioritize your health, especially when you’re going through stressful and difficult times. Of course, our other commitments are essential but neglecting your own health puts you at a greater risk of developing an illness, obesity, low energy, and even depression. Putting off your health and wellness will eventually lead to some serious consequences.

If you desire to be your best for your family, in your work and other roles, you need to make your health and wellness a top goal!  Here are some important reasons you need to keep up your health and fitness with a few tips to help make it easier:

Exercise Relieves Stress!

Not only is exercise great for your heart, blood pressure, weight, and circulation, it’s a great way to beat stress! If you’ve had a hard day at work or home, unplugging and getting in a good sweat is a great way to work it out of your system. You feel empowered and proud of the work you’ve just accomplished which automatically boosts your mood. Not to mention the feel good endorphins that are a natural effect of a good workout!

Focus

Regular martial arts training allows you to develop better focus. Each time you attend class and work on learning and improving your new skills, you flex and grow your focus muscle. We all need focus in our work, school, meetings, conversations, etc. Focus allows us to be mentally prepared and more productive throughout our day!

Energy

The law of inertia states that objects in motion will stay in motion until met with an equal or opposite force. The more you move, the more energy your body has to move! You need this physical energy to not only be successful in your daily activities, but to be able to enjoy life to its fullest! Who wants to be tired and sluggish all day?

There are so many additional benefits to prioritizing your fitness or martial arts training and maintaining good health overall. Remember that physical fitness is one aspect, you’ve also got to keep up a healthy diet and avoid unhealthy habits like smoking, excessive drinking, eating processed foods and skimping on sleep.

Here are a few tips to help keep your health at the top of your list:

Schedule It.

Plan your days and weeks with your training in mind. Carve out that time and schedule it on your calendar or scheduling app. Be sure to set alerts and reminders so you don’t get sidetracked and miss it.

Trick Yourself.

Sometimes you may feel tired or unmotivated to workout or train. When these moments happen, tell yourself you’re just going to practice or workout for 10 minutes. If you end up only doing 10 minutes, that’s 10 minutes more than nothing. But, more often once you get up and get your blood pumping, you feel motivated to complete the full training session. You can do the same with going to your martial arts class. Tell yourself you’re just going to drive there and see how you feel. Once you’re in the parking lot it won’t make sense to leave since you’ve already gotten that far!

Delayed Gratification.

Be sure to have goals for your fitness and training. In moments of weakness remind yourself of what you’re trying to accomplish. It may feel really good in the moment to lay on the couch instead of training, but remember it won’t bring you closer to your goals and you won’t feel good about yourself after. You always feel better after training, even if you didn’t want to participate at first. Keeping your goals in mind and reminding yourself that the momentary sacrifice is worth the end result is a powerful way to keep you on track!

Always remember to communicate with your instructors, training partners or friends in fitness. Having someone else who can encourage and push you in a healthy way is so important for long term success!
